About Us
Our Mission
Praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds, and Peace and Blessings be upon the noblest of Messengers and Prophets,
our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his pure family and all his companions.
Allah Soubhanahu wa Ta’alaa sent messengers and revealed books to guide mankind to the good in this world and in the hereafter.
He Soubhanahu wa Ta’alaa said:
"But seek, with the
(wealth) which Allah has bestowed on thee, the Home of the Hereafter, nor forget
thy portion in this world: but do thou good, as Allah has been good to thee, and
seek not (occasions for) mischief in the land: for Allah loves not those who do
mischief." (Al Qasas:77)
Allah Azza wa Jall has thus
enjoined on the Believers the mission of spreading religion and applying the
jurisprudence, as He said:
“Let there arise out of
you a band of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining what is right, and
forbidding what is wrong: They are the ones to attain felicity.”
(Al Imran: 104)
When one looks at people’s state
nowadays, one realizes to what extent faith deviation and spiritual hollowness
have led to lack of peace, tense psychological pressures, immorality and social
degradation.
Assunnah Muslims Association (AMA)
Canada is one of the city’s platforms that foster calling for divine guidance,
using all the means which are legal and suitable to people’s reality. Likewise,
AMA Canada is concerned with bringing together all the Muslims living in the
city who belong to Ahl Assunnah wa Al-Jama’a, in an attempt to bring closer
different viewpoints, and bridging the gaps amongst them in accordance with the
regulations of the noble shari’ah. The Association also contributes to helping
the needy materially and morally, and teaching Muslims the Arabic language and
Islamic Shari’ah and ethics.
Our Goals
Assunnah Muslims Association Canada
is a charitable religious institution based in Ottawa city. Among its principal
goals, it aims at teaching people the basics of the pathway of Ahl Assunnah wa
Al-Jama’a, and working in collaboration with other Islamic institutions for the
unity and material and moral support of Muslims.
The goals may be summed up in the following:
1. Spreading the pathway of Ahl Assunnah wa Al-Jama’a in terms of creed and behaviour.
2. Contributing to bring Muslims together within the pathway of Ahl Assunnah wa Al-Jama’a, and collaborating with other Islamic institutions and cultural centres.
3. Contributing to providing rising generations with Islamic teaching and education.
4. Caring for the social state of Muslims and supporting them materially.
5. Raising non Muslims’ awareness about Islam’s mission of peace.
Site
Actually, AMA Canada is based in a rented building which can take only two hundred people for prayer.
It is located in the South of Ottawa, Canada’s National Capital.
Ottawa is a beautiful peaceful city, especially in the summer season and it is surrounded by lakes.
It is equally reputed for its arduous winter as most of Canadian cities are fraught with cold, snow and ice.
It has a population of about 1 Million people from diverse races and cultures, hence the openness of Canadian immigration policies.
The overall Muslim community in the Great Area of Ottawa is about 60,000, most of whom come from Somalia, Lebanon and Pakistan.
Like any other community, Muslims are obviously exposed to multivariate social as well as cultural influences which threaten a Muslim’s identity.
One has to bear in mind that Muslims only have one main mosque in Ottawa North,
in addition to a few little mosques and prayer rooms which cannot hold the ever-growing number of Muslims, which fact obliges them to perform their prayers outside.
At the same time, it is unfortunate that the two schools which provide an Islamic curriculum beside the Canadian curriculum
can take no more than 350 pupils, as opposed to the increasing number of Muslim children.
That’s why the existence of a big mosque and an Islamic secondary school has become an essential priority for the wellbeing of Ottawa’s Muslims and their children.
